Jackie
Cooper was formed in the Spring of 2000 in Milwaukee,
WI, out of the ashes of such bands as cup 388 and the
Autumn Effect. A select group of hungry fanatics, desperate
for emotional transference, have been receiving the
signal from Jackie Cooper for more than a year. Jackie
Cooper has performed on bills with a wide variety of
underground sensations, and headlined numerous clubs
in Milwaukee & Madison. Early on, the band was enlisted
by No Karma Recordings, and Lost in Focus
appeared on Make Way for No Karma, which was released
in October of 2001.
What
first jumps out to listeners is the eerily experimental
guitar interplay, which tickles a rarely-touched dimension
of the mind and leads the music from a light mood to
heavy and back. The sound of the keyboard might change
from song to song, but the way it quietly fills the
room and draws the rest of the instruments together
does not. The percussion is steady and inventive. Both
lead singers bring a sincere, unmeasured approach to
the microphone, and Jackie Cooper is ever careful not
to trip over its words. The nimble bass lines are slightly
unpredictable upon first listen, as is much of the music,
but keep listening, it grows on you.
Jackie
Cooper has just finished their debut record, titled
The New Mood, and are in the process of releasing the
record on No Karma Recordings this fall. The band will
play countless weekend shows in the Midwest throughout
the fall and winter in support of the record.
